Digital Marketing and Communication

From the eyes of an Management and Entrepreneurship major:-

I Akeda Lezama solemnly declare that although I am not a Marketing major student at COSTAATT, this course was indeed integral and vital to my degree. As a final year student currently pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Entrepreneurship, it had been my great honour to be given the opportunity and exposure of this class, the content and practicality.

I selected it as an elective over many others such as Events Management, Managerial Finance and Employee Training and Development and I believe that this was one of the best decision I have ever made. Excitement is a mixture of Enthusiasm, Motivation, Intuition and a hint of Creativity. I will be very honest at this moment just hearing the name of this course made me excited and passionate. Weeks after weeks as sessions began, I started to build a great appreciation for the course.

This is how my journey through this course all began. We were welcomed with an introduction of the internet on a whole which I learnt was newly introduced. This followed topics such as brand identity which increased my awareness for products and services offered and made me pay closer attention to layout, slogans and trademarks. Then came Canva my life saver, although this does not make me a graphic designer, I am so grateful for what it had thought me to do. I will definitely overuse Canva from now on as this is something that would indeed help me in both my professional and personal life in many ways. As for blogging, I am going to use this to start a story baseline where I share my views and opinions on a variety of topics. In addition, I would use it as a reflective platform to share what I am thankful for and give feedback on how it had improved me as an individual leaving words of inspiration and motivation to my readers. My personal engagement with Facebook would remain constant. However, currently I am working on creating a Facebook Business Page for my business to ensure that my business creates its own identity.

Furthermore, I will use Twitter and Instagram as advertising platforms for my business venture to help in my promotional aspect just to increase my Social Media presents. Last but not least, LinkedIn, I will admit I still do not have a full understanding on the proper usage of this in relation to a business but I am working on filling that gap. This was a great start to formulating and enhancing my own personal brand.

Thus, I will advise the new students of COSTAATT enrolled in any degree to select Digital Marketing and Communication as a great and informative elective. This is a deep course which can make a difference in the lives of any student regardless their academic standpoint. It all comes back to one basic principle, as we live in a digital world where technology is advancing rapidly, we would need to know some of the basic usage of Social Media channels and platforms and  also it is vital to gain an understanding of the internet in general. With all this being said, I am recommending MKTG290 to the world. Looking forward to the upcoming topics, I am not exaggerating but this course had really change my life in a positive way.
Dr. Sess once said, " Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

MOBILE COMPUTING- EFFECTS ON FAMILY RELATIONSHIP 

Mobile computing is a generic term that refers to a variety of devices that allow people to access data and information from wherever they are. Sometimes referred to as "human-computer interaction," mobile computing transports data, voice, and video over a network via a mobile device."

Mobile devices can be connected to a local area network (LAN), or they can take advantage of Wi-Fi or wireless technology by connecting via a wireless local area network (WLAN).

The Benefits of Mobile Computing

1. Connectivity: You can stay connected to all sources at all times.

2. Social Engagement: You can interact with a variety of users via the Internet.

3. Personalization: You can tailor your mobile computing to your individual needs.

The most common mobile computing devices include:

1. Cellphones

2. Smartphones

3. Tablets and

4. Personal Computers (PC's)

This have been very beneficial as for instance smartphone technology has brought new social networks and new opportunities for both marketers and individual but in my personal opinion based on observation, I have noticed that this same thing that had brought so much good has also been destroying individual relationship.

We are in the digital times and this had caused humans to now act like zombies walking around disclosed to their cellular devices and lack awareness of their environment. We had reach a point now where we refer to family time as a traditional practice and not a norm. Long ago, family time was a norm as physical communication with each other’s was default individual's preferred that way.

Now, with the introduction of smartphone technology as much as it keeps us informed and connected to each other. It still deprives us our spiritually connection with love ones and allows us to lose out on a lot. Thus, your smartphone may help you stay in touch, we loses the personal touch due to its addictive nature on individuals which influences time lost.

DEVELOPING YOUR OWN PERSONAL BRAND!! 

YAY OR NAH???????

Many times we associate branding only with products and services offered by companies. Subsequently, we ignore the fact that the same concept can be applied to an individual 's personal brand, isn't that important as well?

Yes it is! I view personal branding as a method whereby each person gets a chance to create attributes, behavioral patterns and traits which makes him/her unique or stand out in front of a crowd. 

For instance, imagine an interview for the position of a new general manager. Now, the requirements for the following position is a degree in business management with ten years’ experience in a similar field. After the short listing process was concluded, five candidates succeeded, which is four persons and yourself. 

The question is how would you persuade the interviewers that you are the primer candidate for this job. What would you do? How do you encourage the panel to choose you over the rest? Which of your characteristics would play a major role in influencing such a decision? 

When you could positively answer these questions that by itself my friend is personal branding. To further explain let me take you back to the beginning of times. The bible states, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female, He created them” (Genesis 1:27). This peak, the fact that God was the first to instill some sort of branding in all of us but how we personally develop it would be our own brand.

Subsequently, I believe personal branding is absolutely relevant in today’s society as it is the major contributory factor for the enhancement of differentiation. It would be rather a very boring world if everyone was the same with regards to views, likes, dislikes etcetera. We would be like clones living on planet earth. Another point deals with mores and values. As lightly as today’s young generation is taking this topic, it’s one of great concern. The way you dress, talk and communicate in society says a lot about you as an individual that is your own personal brand. Last but not least, self-esteem or confidence sets the tone to being in the spot light among a group of persons.

Although, research has shown that personal branding is a fairly new process that deals with people marketing themselves and their careers, as a brand, (Lake, 2018) It is part of a self-help management technique which was previously about self-improvement. Personal branding is an ongoing process of establishing a prescribed image or impression, in the mind of others, about an individual. Lakes 2018 states that, developing a personal brand is the proactive way of controlling one’s career development and how one is perceived in the marketplace. A strong personal brand will affect one’s ability to get the right jobs, promotions, and increase one’s ability to attract talent and capital (Lake, 2018).

In conclusion, this quote from Oprah Winfrey sums up personal branding, “I've come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that's as unique as a fingerprint and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.”(Oprah Winfrey)

Below is a sample of my Personal Brand Statement, which I believe is a great way of initiating and developing a personal brand.

My Personal Brand Statement:

As an all rounded knowledgeable form of God’s greatest creation, I am inspired by my ability to enjoy the best of both worlds. (see picture below) As I juggle through life in the professions of being a student, educator, purchasing officer and small business owner, I am motivated to help others recognized the importance of being flexible and having excellent communication skills. 

My characteristic of being a great listener enables me to give meaningful advice to other. I have a very good sense of humor and a quest for lifelong learning. Though outspoken and down to earth, I am dedicated to keeping a professional image as I have respect for moral and values. 

I am committed to my job and meeting deadline as I am to encouraging others to reach for the sky and advocating the importance of confidence. I have been gifted with the quality of understanding which makes me the prior person to breaking down the walls of conflict.

Every business would like to have some kind of social media presence in order to reach out to their target market or just keep their current customer informed about any new products or services they are going to offer.
